Espiral Espíritu
Attempting to recreate the ambiance of the renowned Morro Solar, a cluster of hills located in the Chorrillos district, south of Lima city, was crucial in conveying the tranquility and omnipresence of the organic and natural surroundings. By capturing the essence of the desert aura—dry, mist-filled, and breezy—accompanied by the harmonious sounds of birds, we aimed to transport the audience into a dreamlike sphere, allowing them to experience the essence of Lima, Peru. These were the vital elements that shaped our inaugural presentation in Barcelona. Our objective was to immerse the spectators, both in the Show at F O C and the Pop-Up at Ssuave, into a dreamlike realm, offering them a sudden glimpse of what it feels like to be in Lima, the hometown of our founder.Espiral Espíritu is presented with the intention of relating the textile materials we use with people. Our intention is to show, through the spiral, the path of search for being. Spiral as cycle of birth, death and rebirth; growth, evolution and expansion. Constant change, transformation and development both in the physical and spiritual order.
Intending to connect the textile materials, we use with people, we’ve generated a connection between the words:
ES piral - Spiral
ES píritu - Spirit
The etymology of ES, which means is in Spanish, comes from being, to exist.
The relationship that the garment continues to exist, to re-circulate matter, and that the person is, so that they can feel themselves.
This new co-selection seeks to reflect the colors of Lima, which is why all the textile waste comes from the Gamarra garment center located in said city. We also present some pieces from the collaboration with the brand called Makeo. They are second-hand and deadstock items that have been intervened and transformed from their original patterns to give them a second life.
For the selection of models and much of the team, we have brought together migrants residing in Spain. A large part of them are artists and are interested in global change, not only in fashion, but also supporting conscious, artisan, circular consumption and valuing non-mass textile reproduction due to the environmental impact generated by the industries. In addition to seeing fashion as a way to identify and express oneself, in order to break aesthetic binarisms.
All the individuals who worked together to make this project a success displayed remarkable dedication and a true sense of community. Many people felt seen and acknowledged within a space where they are not typically welcomed due to not conforming to prevailing hegemonic standards. The presence of diverse bodies and expressions marked a departure from established historical norms, forging a collective bond around a common and spiritual purpose that permeated the atmosphere we sought to create.
Creating an authentic environment was crucial, and it was important that the individuals showcasing the clothing shared commonalities, whether through shared experiences or being shaped by similar dynamics of intersectionality, such as migration or racialization. The constant experience of otherness in Western societies underscored the significance of this representation.
The desire to showcase a wide range of diversity encompassing bodies, colors, personalities, and nuances is at the core of Espíritu Club's mission. In these transformative times, it is vital to convey the message that inclusivity should be the norm, celebrating the uniqueness of each person and emphasizing that everyone deserves to be seen and celebrated on the runway.
Every human being occupies and experiences their own reality, each possessing their own brand of perfection. The underlying message is that Espíritu Club's garments embrace the beauty of authenticity and transgression
